Enabling comprehensive research at the pace of change

Law Cyborg exists to make meticulous legal research accessible for every practitioner.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, our team is led by Andrew Wierda, a tax lawyer who previously worked on complex matters for large corporates at EY and EY Law. Andrew is intimately familiar with earlier generations of legal research tools and their limits, rich in content, but built on antiquated search techniques and unable to produce fully reasoned answers. Having grown up tinkering with computers and software, he recognised the emerging potential of AI, especially its ability to make information dramatically more accessible.

Since 2023, that conviction has fuelled Law Cyborg’s rapid growth, driven largely by word of mouth and proving revolutionary for many small practices in New Zealand. Andrew's vision attracted investment from Blackbird VC, supporting our expansion to cover all areas of law in New Zealand, as well as tax law in Australia and the UK. Today, Law Cyborg is used by Big Four and small practices alike, with 1,000+ firms across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK adopting our research tools. And Andrew occasionally admits he’s a little jealous of the technology practitioners get to use today.
